END OF THE BOREDOM
ACOUSTIC METADATA
-
TIMESTAMP: Spring, 2007
-
ACOUSTIC TARGET: Director Wu (Cardiac stall frequency)
-
RESULT: Order Collapse Frequency / Cease-fire
-
BIOSENSOR: Biological anti-itch cream (The thrill of collapse)
The call connected. No bureaucratic pleasantries. I unleashed a barrage of profanities, perfectly cloning Tong’s pitch, rhythm, and wavelength. The real Tong never swore, but this "Tong" was livid, accusing Wu of greed and "meddling in the business of crows.”
I watched the seconds on the screen, sampling the Director’s respiration. His rhythm—once stable and self-important—suffered a sudden, cardiac stall under the weight of the "Minister’s" rage.
I hung up. I didn't need to see the frantic "retreat" orders or the Director’s trembling hands. I only needed to capture that precise moment: the Order Collapse Frequency. In this bland world of flesh and bone, it is my only biological anti-itch cream.
Lanhui’s arrival signaled the end of the boredom.
“Who was supposed to come today?” I asked. “Director Wu from the Administrative Bureau,” she replied. “But his secretary just called. Said there’s an emergency. He can’t make it for Go today.”
“Shall I stay with you?”
“No need. I’ll just sit for a while.”
I sat by myself, drifting.
